How To Get Your Lower Back Stronger…and Stronger!

If you haven’t experienced the affects of a weak or painful lower back at some stage of your life, then chances are that it’s highly likely you will – that’s not me jinxing you by the way, it’s what the stats say.

Over two thirds of us will have back pain at some stage. If you’re as lucky as me, you may have even popped discs or done worse!

Are these outcomes really a surprise though when we consider that most of us don’t even know how to properly strengthen our backs…let alone add progressive overload to the most common lower back exercise in the gym!?

Yes, I’m talking about the back extension machine – the one where your feet are locked in and your legs are on thigh pads as you begin to tip your torso over and face plant towards the floor….only to pull yourself up at the last moment.

Ask the average person to do this by hinging at their hips and recruiting their glutes and hamstrings for loading, and they will look at you like you just asked them to recall a good hairstyle from the 80’s.

It’s ok though – we all have to start somewhere.

If you have been following me for some time, you will know that I love talking about how to progress exercises.

Why?

Not only is it great to be performing better and achieving new personal bests with your training, it’s also very necessary to establish yourself above previous baselines so it’s further to fall so to speak.

In this latest quick >>video, I’m going to show you 7 ways to progress your back extensions….an exercise you should likely already be doing for your lower back and posterior chain (more about that in the next video).

You can only go so far by adding reps, and there are better ways to get stronger at your back extensions.
